Front axle alignment issue

Post by Fireypete »

Front axle alignment..guys my front axle doesn't quite line up. The bike is supported front and rear on stands, perhaps the forks are non aligned due to that. Dunno how to fix it. Put the rear on first? Then remove that stand? Have tried lifting the bike slightly with a ratchet strap on the front, just couldn't get the axle through. I remember taking the wheel off, and the front stand looking so unstable I put it back on to readjust so it shouldn't be anything major, just tricky to juggle on those under fork stands (not real stable)

Yeah it'll be the stand compressing one fork more than the other. Stands that locate under the steering stem are the way to go. Then you can pull your forks out easily to work on them etc. Worth investing in. Another way round this would be to winch the front of the bike up with a rope/strop around the steering head. Do you have rafters and some sort of hand winch? Or try putting a jack real carefully under the front cylinder and take some weight. Watch for topple though!

Thanks for the reassurance. So i did lift the bike at the rear slightly and juggled the front and got the wheel back on. Those bloody stands move around a lot...nerve wracking. Got the rear on, took a while to get everything to line up. I'll torque it up tommorow....I will probably take the front wheel off again so I can mount and bleed the calipers more easily. With wheel on wheel access to the bleed nipple is a joke. If any one has a different suggestion to this
Remove wheel
Attatch calipersto forks and bleed old fluid out
Remove calipers
front wheel back on
Calipers back on
then..pads in
