new member whit 750 sport

Hello, my name is willem, and i am from holland.
i am doing the 17inch thing on my bike, thats how i found this forum, looking fore info on the net.
i have 3 ducati's 1098 from 2008, classic pantah racer fore on the track, and the 750 sport.
the bike has no webers , but delorto 40mm and it runs and start, great!
i also made a rear fender, that looks great, i think!
the 17 inch weel conversion is almost ready, just waiting on de new brake lines, to get here! hope to do the shake down next week!

Bike looks good.
When you put on the front wheel with new speedo drive, did your front wheel end up centered in the forks? Easy check is just putting your finger between the tire and fork leg.

Also, your brake caliper adapter seems a bit shy of material around the mounting bolts. I am a bit concerned for the durability of those parts. Here are some available on e-bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/40mm-Bil ... _500wt_956


I love the old 32/32 calipers. I have a set on my bike also.

Was the rear hugger / fender off of a newer model, and just trimmed up?

What size rear wheel did you use? the 4.5" or the 5.5"?
Which sprocket carrier did you use? There are two different offsets which will affect your chainline.

hello, yes the wheel is centert, i machined 4mm off the outside of the speedodrive.!
the material i use fore the brake caliper adapter is stainles steel, no alluminium. i think it wil be oke.
the rear hugger is from a 900ss, and yes its trimmed up, fore a better look.
the rear wheel is 5.5inch whit 170 tire.
i believe its compleet whit sprocket carrier, and brake caliper, and plate 0f the 851 ducati

I am also running a 5.5" rear wheel with a 170 tire. Seems to be a good combination.

How is the handling, steering of your bike, whit the new set up, is it a lot better then before?
i cant wait to ty the new combination!
i stil have to do something abaut the rear suspension, it has seen better days.

My bike came with 17" wheels on it, although done badly. I did get to ride a friends stock 750 Sport, and was shocked at the difference. The 17" wheels allow it to change direction much quicker, but is still stable at high speeds. I think a big improvement. No doubt that the 16" wheels contribute a lot to the character of the Sport and the Paso, but the 17" are much better. the bike feels lighter, and is quicker to turn in. Of course modern tires are big reason you want to do this change.

I tried a 120/65 front tire, and quickly switched it out for a 120/70. the shorter tire would stand up in corners if you touched the brakes.

Nice to have a Dutchman in the 750 Sport section. I like what you did with your bike and I'm looking to do an 17' conversion myself in the near future (winter). Think I first do the rear wheel because the tire is very tired on the 16' rim.

Like the Pantah racer too.

Just looking at the photos, I notice a few more things.
1. You don't have the vacuum lines on the manifolds. If you have the Digiplex ignition, the vacuum lines assist the advance of the spark timing. If you have the Kukosoan, then I think it doesn't matter.
2. The carbs you have don't use the rubber boots. (there are two versions) You should slide one of the carbs back just to confirm that the previous owner installed the smooth intake manifolds that match the carbs.
3. You put spacers under the fork brace to hold up the front fender to fit the 17" wheels (common). I recommend a longer bolt with a nylock nut on the bottom of the fork flange. A fork brace helps to keep the forks from flexing inboard and outboard when you hit a bump, reducing friction. With the spacers, you will get a lot of flex in the bolts, and they will work loose quickly.

good point, about the fender bolts, that would be better!!
i have the kokusan ignition, and dont need the vacuum lines.
fore the pantah racer i have the ignitec module ignition, and i have a spare, i am thinking off putting it on the 750 sport, just to see how it runs, and play whit the advance time.
i did look at the manifolds, when i cleaned the carbs, and replaced the gasked, its oke!

what Bridgestones have you fitted - look like BT 003? I have a 17" rear with the 16" front on my sport used for classic racing. Fitted a new 003 this weekend and with a cold track and brand new tyre went down on the 1st lap of practice!! So moral of the story make sure you clean of all the release agent off the tyre before you head for the track or road, but looking at your pantah guess you already know that

clive, the tires are bt 016 front and back.
good fore the road, and fore a track day!
yes i know new tires are a bit slippery, so easy on the first mile's.(laps)

hello, did the first ride afther the 17inch conversion.
steering is oke, but lots of vibration in the fork when braking!
i think the brakediscs need to be replaced, dont think these are strait anymore.
also need to work on the suspension, its verry week, front and back.
i orderd a replacemend voor the back, and new springs fore the fork, whit thicker oil (w 20)
hope to test all of this next week, and hope its a lot better!?

I'm still a bit concerned about those front brake adapters. They may contribute to your vibration, although I can't see what's under those bolt heads. See if there is any evidence of them moving, or vibrating.
