Regulator woes

Post by JohnDoe »

Hello,

My 1992 907IE's voltage regulator finally gave up the ghost while the bike was idling in the garage, lots of smoke and acrid burning bakelite (or whatever that black stuff is) fumes...so it seems that I'll need a new regulator..I've settled on the ElectroSport ESR510 (I guess it's the same as the RR51), which looks like a reasonable replacement, but looking at their web site it seems the leads don't match the OEM part. Has anyone done this swap already. I'd appreciate some pointers before tackling the job.

Regards,

JC

I have just tracked down my drawing of the Electrex RR51 connection diagram.

Inspect the wiring from the alternator closely for insulation melting all the way back to twhere it comes out of the housing. Clean, clean and then clean all connections.
