I dug into a rebuild on my 907ie slave cylinder. I ordered this rebuild kit from Ducati. New piston on the left, original piston on the right.

In regards to the bore of the cylinder, I’m thinking I can clean it up with a piece of 300 or 400 grit wet or dry paper? Does that seem like a reasonable approach?

Do not sand the cylinder wall. As the seal moves over it you want the surface as smooth as possible. I'd clean it with brake cleaner or Acentone, then if necessary use fine steel wool and at last metal polish. If you use wet sand paper I'd take 600 grid or finer as the sanding marks can be polished out which won't be possible if 300 or 400 grit is used.
With the new piston being lower I wonder if a longer control rod is needed.
