Ohh that's *lovely*! I've been agonising over whether to do a proper job on the 750 Sport - and I may well do so once I've proven that it's a) not going to throw a rod on the first test run, and b) something that I enjoy riding and want to keep. Looking at this work is definitely edging me in that direction. I really need to sort out some decent paint though - so far I've just had to touch up a couple of places and although Tamiya X7 red is as close to a perfect match as I've found so far, it'd be a bloody expensive way to repaint the whole thing!

Thanks nr. I sort of went th other way which probably wasn't the smartest thing haha.Right off the bat pretty much went all in and that's with never had properly ridden one of these,I saw a lovely blue and red 750 sport back in the 80s and that I guess led me on this journey. I've been following your sport story as well and it's been very informative and interesting, looking forward to hearing how you perceive the riding experience once finished as probably before I get to ride this bike. I know Andrew on this forum was very impressed with his 750 sport when he finally got to ride his restored beauty, enjoy

nr.i had the best original panel I had colour matched at my friends auto paint store. Sort of going backwards and forwards again ,I showed Mario the tank today(worst panel for orange peel) a sand down with 1200 /1500 w/d chuck the stickers on and bang a couple wet coats of clear . Don't rub through to base coat especially not beyond. Well 2 panels in you guessed it, rubbed through the tank yeah through the basecoat, primer to the metal , tight front edge near the two fastners. I'm learning through a quite a few bad mistakes but I'll keep at it. The decals will also be a real challenge, The decals I had made came with 3 x decal above the headlight, you guessed it I stuffed up the first 2 so I'm considering visiting the store I got em made and asking for some more tricks of trade waha.It can get expensive but it's great therapy and a hobby.

Getting closer every day waha, got some tips on decals and hoping to finish the red and white panels tomoz , had a couple of rub through's on the tank and headlight fairing which will have to wait and slowly prime and harden up between coats or ill have a fry up , fingers crossed anyway that if I slowly build her up no fry ups, hats off to pro painters who nail this stuff time and again, I'm just hoping i jag getting a nice clear coat without a lot of orange peel, otherwise I'll end up having to sand and polish the clearcoat.

Having a couple of paint issues but also mostly wins , the decals are pretty tricky and absolute clean and flat sanded panels only.I ended up getting a new set of decals printed waha, mainly from air bubbles probably due to some grit or maybe just air, at that stage I should have tried putting them in the sun as allegedly that can help. I opted to rip them off and start again while not stuck down for too long which in my mind removal at a later stage could do real damage to the fairings. These parts are ready for bolting on and final machine polishing.

Fairings need clearcoat and hopefully come out as good as the other panels, then it's just the seatbase needs a little more work. Once again much credit to the big boys who perfect the paint trade, I have got to realise I can't get perfection here at all but I'll be satisfied with the results.

I appreciate that mate, I think the red and white will be really striking when all finished and polished up, but she'll get plenty of use eventually, I can't wait.

The seat base and major fairings have come up much better for orange peel etc, I think I'm just doing my thing(learning through mistakes)and gaining more understanding of gun settings.

Every panel is paint complete now and I'm w/d soft block sanding with 2000 grit, then 1 by 1 polishing with a 2 or 3 in air polisher with a foam pad.
