750 paseo dead
750 paseo dead
Hi all, never had any problems with my Paso.
The bike has just over 6,000 Miles. Today i was trying to fire it up but no luck, the battery fully charge, all the lights ok, but no starter motor going. The only thing I can hear is a strange noise under the seat. Can it be the regulator-rectifier? all the wires attached to it are ok, I checked all the fuses and are ok, what else can be?
Thanks, Sal

Try to check it.
But... If you don't have current on it don't replace it (as suggested from the check list), try to clean it and remove the rust from all the connections.
Good work

Re: 750 paseo dead
I think you have problems with the starter relay. It has one wire coming from the battery, and another going to the starter engine. Both wires are locked with a 10mm nuts. You can join both wires with a tool (I use a pliers, one leg touching one nut and the other leg touchin the other one) and the starter engine have to run. Doing it, you'll know you have a relay failure, because you made a bypass with the pliers and run. Be careful, you can produce little sparks when touching the nuts. I hope you understand me, I'm sorry, my english is very poor.

Another possibility is that you have problems with the starter button.Try to turn the round button when pressing the starter button. Maybe the round button has a bad contact, maybe it is dirty.

Re: 750 paseo dead
Hello, I checked and looks like is the starter solenoid.
How can I find the DUcati part number for the 750 model? I know can use other solenoid from other model of Ducati, does this one sounds right? ... #39740011A
Thanks again, Sal

Re: 750 paseo dead
Maybe you can go to a big autospare parts with your solenoid and there try to buy one. I know a few parts of a Paso come from cars, Fiat, Lancia, etc. My Paso runs with a electric fuel pump from a Renault 5.

Re: 750 paseo dead
Mounting issues aside , any 12 volt solenoid will do the job . Probly the cheapest new solenoid you could get would be off a ride- on lawn mower , or a small car ( auto parts store ). They are a bit like spark plugs , heaps of manufacturers and any one will do as long as its the ( close to ) same spec , in this case 12 v

Mctool is right on all counts but one
A lawn mower solenoid is not going to be cheaper
Haven't had to repair your lawn mower lately eh Hamish ?
Just bought a carb solenoid for mine recently 125usd and I had to order it

Re: 750 paseo dead
I installed the one for the newer ducatis and I modified the wiring, with an additional relay for +12v and a bigger wire from battery to starter: you can find all suggestion you need on downloads and FAQ
have a nice ride, Nicola
