Yes i thought about the clipons. They are from a 916 (risers) that part is ok, the only problem now is the tank.

Are these mounted above or below the triple clamp ? I have some aftermarket parts from LUCAS. You can change the piece between clamp and bar to adjust the height of the bar. (similar to these)

The great advantage from the Paioli fork is that other than other Duc forks it`s one of the few with the same length as the original Paso fork. So when swapping fork the best would be to mount the clipons below the triple clamp othewise you "lose" fork length and the overall geometry will change. I figure that this will be probably less important if you have 17" wheels.

But when the tank does not fit, i will make a new one from carbonfiber and epoxi resin bought in your country.

It`s tight, but I think cutting the front edge (and rewelding it if necessary) should be sufficiant. Don`t know about space with the fairings on though.

What i'm doing is seriously "over the top", but there's no way back and i like to do the work.

I don`t think it`s over the top. It`s a nice project and going back to the original fork is always possible.

I chose to do it the hard way and will never do it again (you can buy a second hand 750 paso for it

I guess most of us would have 2 or 3 Pasos in the garage if we calculated like that

Here`s my Paioli fork. The 16" Marvic rim is almost covered by the 320mm brake disc I will try to keep the Paso front fender as I want the overall look to be original.

Just had a very bad day at work but, at the same time, earned a lot of money so i can revise my engine within a month or six weeks!!

About the forks, i've got the same forks too.
I bought two pairs of paiolis
That was because i couldn't get a triple tree without it and i got the carbon fender with it.
but your marvic wheel , says enough!

as you can see on my new added pics, the risers are mounted under the upper triple.
I still don't think that it comes high enough, but otherwise i will put the old ones on ebay and buy higher risers from ebay.

But i am sure it will fit some day to have a bike with good (hope better) behaviour.

I even thought,and i'm proud on those details, about the laverda decal on the forks.

I've bought a "made in italy" decal on ebay.
They make them in every size.

Thank You very much from information ! I am very hurry just now with my ST2, so ill make accurate measurements and adopters later. Thank You for PM me ! Your measuremets are very usefull and i make adopters from 15mm aluminium(propably!), like You wrote, that its better, than 13mm.

I did a lot with CFK the past years. (ie the chainguard of my Gilera and the Pasos airbox)

I`m sure it`s not necessary to build a new tank. Also there would be many problems like making the thread for the petcock. Stefano had a tank made of glassfibre but then had an alloy tank made as the glassfibre one kept leaking.
(for CFK work there`s also clear epoxy resin, not only the yellowish and blueish one btw.)
I have an old dented tank here I kept for some testing and I would cut the front edge off before you did to see if it fits, but unluckily my angle grinder just broke down
Try to cut only the edge and not into the tank. If that happens you`ll have metal particles in the tank and it may start to rust inside. So better cut down max. to the welding and then reweld the edge (if necessary).

First my steering bearrings are normal paso.

About the cutting: I will try to only cut the front end fairring, but think i have to cut a little piece of the tank.
That's also because i do not want to have a strange "gap" in the fairing, that gives the bikel line (looks) of the fairing a negative influence.
Before i try something i have to draw something first on the fairing itself, so it will take some time before i will actually cut in it.

But i've got everything double for the paso so i use my baddest fairingparts to try it out.


About the engine, it is a '94 900ss.
I drove about 25.000 km with it and it was great but it is time to revise it and give it a little more .
So i already bought the st2 cams, a dynokit, light flywheel and open exhaust system.
The reason why i had to have more money to do it is because i want to make it a 944 (or more) with high compression pistons.
But this is a worry for later.

Then the wheels, they are from a 750ss (17x4,5) rear and you have to cut out the hole for the bearring with 1 mm. around.
So the diameter is 2 mm. bigger to let the bearring fit.
This is because the 750ss rear axle is 17mm and is related to this bearring with 40mm. outside diameter.

They told me that a bearring with outside diameter 40mm. and inside dia. 20mm. does not exist (at the skf dealer), so i have to cut out.
That is a secure job but not mission impossible.

Ok thats it for now, hope someone can do something with the information.

if I can manage to change the bearings on my edge grinder in time I can try to modify the tank to see if there`s clearance for the fork. I`ll let you know. When that is done it would be time to put on the front fairing and instrument panel to see if the fork touches anywhere. I hope nothing else from the fairing needs any modification.

The step with the engine I`ve already done beginning of last year incl. 780cc kit etc. so luckily I`m rather slowely putting the bike back together than taking it apart

Are you saying that you want to run a wheel that is for a 17mm with an axle that is 20mm, correct?

You are correct that SKF doesn't show a bearing that has a 20mm ID and a 40mm OD. If you plan on reaming out the hub another 2mm to use a 20mm x 40mm bearing, you're probably looking to use a 63004-2RS bearing (16mm wide) or any of the 2004-2RS varients (12mm wide).

Machining the hub for the 40mm OD bearings shouldn't be an issue. Worse thing you may have to do is take it to a machine shop and have it done. I bought a spare set of wheels for my ST2 and they were damaged in shipping. The rear wheel's sprocket carrier broke off a section of the lip where the seal goes on the front wheel. I had to get it welded and machined back down. It came out very nice and cost $75 USD for the welding and machining. I'm sure reaming the hub for the larger bearing would come out just as nice, and probably cheaper since it only needs to be machined....

I will order the 42 mm. bearrings (20mm. inside)

There are a few honing tools available to do the job myself, but i think this can be done more accurate by a pro.
There are several machinists in my area that can do it, and i'm doing some research at the moment for prices.

I was saturday in biggest of nordic countries mc fairs/trades in Helsinki,,, fotos from Desmosedici, all new Ducati modells and plenty of cute girls... also i talked with Mika Kallio.... and after fairs surely little Koskenkorva and hot Sauna..... but, all info about adopters is welcome surely....
