Bearings crankshaft / SKF
Bearings crankshaft / SKF
Hi.
I renovating my 906 engine with new crankshaft and bearings.
Anyone that has the SKF numbers for the bearings or maybe a link to where i can buy them (cheap.....)
Any hints regarding engine assembly is recieved with thanks. This is my first Ducati engine....
Ps. I have disassembled the engine and can see the the main crankshaft bearings are "well done". I think this has caused my rotor to split 2 times.

Hi duske, have a look here:
http://forums.ducatipaso.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4369
I compiled this list when I rebuilt my motor, it had NTN main bearings but the numbers should be the same.
As sugested in that thread you should be able to get all these bearings through a local bearing supplier or google the bearing number and you should find what yor looking for. Good luck with you're engine rebuild.

Thanks for your mail.
I have seen the list and tried to find one of the bearings I needed from your list - like : 7307 X2TB (main bearing) but it is hard to find. Ebay doesn't give me any hit. I can find some hit but the price is &%¤¤#%
It is me ? I was just thinking that the bearing must have another SKF number or ?

I found a few on eBay. Try this listing 160927490294, it's in Germany.

Here is another supplier a bit cheaper http://www.thebearingshop.com/H1.htm

Re: Bearings crankshaft / SKF
There are topics on other Ducati forums about crankshaft bearings saying the ones used by Ducati were specially designed for them and that others like the ones from SKF didn`t have the identical design and wouldn`t withstand the forces the same way as the original ones. Some also reported about bearing failures when using others.

Re: Bearings crankshaft / SKF
The crankshaft bearings are not standard deep groove bearings.I think that they are called angular contact bearings from memory, but that is not important.
What is important is that they require preload, the same as a tapered roller bearing requires preload.
This is achieved with shims on the crankshaft AND the final thickness of your crankcase gasket will
effect this measurement as well. Not to mention correctly pressing new bearings into place.
Failure to do this operation correctly, will cause premature bearing failure.SKF bearings are a far less likely
culprit.
Reasearch this procedure and plan accordingly, you should be fine if you don't take short cuts.I know that
it is a pain in the ass, repeatedly bolting and unbolting the crankcase, but this is the difference between
a good and bad rebuild. J.
