Gert,
They are referring to the break away style of mirror as opposed to the bolt on style...two different mounts. There is also a two piece mirror and a three piece. The three piece mirrors are all bolt on. Some of the two piece are bolt on some are breakaway style. The only advantage I see is in a tip over the break away will not rip out large hunks of your precious bodyworks,it will however still give you lots of cracks to fix and repaint :banghead:

OK.

The only good one is original one w one whole housing that does not separate except fr front plate
to axcess bulb etc.
All others are bad imitations & quite ugly IMHO.

that would be the two piece and I agree if you want to claim OEM it must be two piece, otherwise it is a gold digging knock off and ain't worth the postage  IMNSHO :!: :!: :!:

when you wreck the original mirror by throwing your bike down you'll find out that the metal base plate stays on the fairing. yes, bolted down.
however the mirror body self sits on small brackets gripping around studs on the base plate. I'll post a picture of the wreckage.

The FAR mirror has a different, more simple construction with only a base plate fitted to the mirror body.
