Re: Clutch: perhaps I'm doing something wrong

Seals are cheap and easy to do and are about the only place oil can leak into the clutch . Are you fitting the modified 900ss slave piston and skateboard bearing ? Ok, then I'll dig in further to get to the seals, just in case. At this point, I've already got the basket out, so I'm closer to the se...

Re:

use your old spring and mushroom pin. (even if you have to get a new bronze pin machined by a shop it will be the cheaper option) Did somebody draft up the specs on the mushroom pin at one point? I seem to recall seeing a mechanical drawing for it, but I'm drawing a blank. I think mine's had it; I'...

Clutch: perhaps I'm doing something wrong

I have my clutch apart yet again. 3rd year in a row. 1st time: bearing in slave cylinder disintegrated. Replaced everything: clutch pack, slave piston, bearing, spring. 2nd time: new bearing blew up. 3rd time: clutch started getting grabby, wouldn't take a load. Opened it up and it's all dirty, like...

Re: Clutch woes (or, "what, already?")

Does anyone have a part number for that seal, or a parts diagram? I've got the recommended clutch tool on its way (thanks, G, as always!)

Re: Clutch woes (or, "what, already?")

: 4. Replacing oil seal(s). Nuisance? Figures it's brand new oil ... Not sure what you mean. Does it need replacing? I haven't looked under the basket itself yet, so I'm going on McTool's comment in the 3rd reply of this thread : A juddery clutch can be caused by oil contamination . If your clutch ...

Clutch woes (or, "what, already?")

Quick summary: my ~24k+ mile '88 750 started giving me clutch issues a couple seasons ago. Turned out the bearing in the slave piston disintegrated; while I was in there, I noticed the friction discs were exceptionally thin so I just replaced all of it. Naturally, the original part numbers for the d...

Steering head bearings

I haven't dug into it yet, but I can tell I'm due for new steering head bearings. Just testing the waters before I start pulling things apart ... any gotchas I should keep in mind?

There's a shop in NH that'll do it, too. I have their contact info somewhere & can post it if anyone's interested.

Re: New Member from New Zealand

Welcome, Paul!

Cool to see a Monster block wedged into the Paso's square frame rails (I've an M750, as well as a P750). I also dig the IMO Renzo sticker ... while I'm not usually a fan of extra stickers, I think that one's a fine touch.

Re: clutch piston wear

Jake, the blue oil seal should just lever out. If there`s no seal/o-ring on the piston you can try to heat the piston up a bit and then lever the blue seal out. Otherwise just drive a sharp screw into the blue seal and pull it out. The problem then will be how to hold the piston ;) That's what I th...

I did this just a year ago, so you'd think I'd remember what I did... But I don't. How to get that stupid blue seal out of the slave? I've already poked myself good once; I figured I better ask someone who knows better before I need stitches. ;-)

Re: Help with Fuel system set up?

I replaced my fuel run with the vacuum set up used on the Monsters/mid-90's SS; eliminated the electric fuel pump altogether. (I also replaced my Weber with a pair of Mikuni 38s, so naturally, your mileage may vary with or without the carb swap). My fuel run goes (stator side) petcock -> (stator sid...

Re: Paso wants to start

I have a spare tank & petcock I'm willing to part with; presently red, no cap. It wasn't pristine, as I recall, but I haven't looked at it in a while. If you're interested I can come up with a real description and pictures. Just let me know.
