Re: Starting problem
So did you measure if you have the full 12V at the starter solenoid and at the starter ? I guess worst case would be that the windings of the starter motor are damaged and it has a short. As it was suggested you can try to connect 12V directly to the starter to see if it turns. If it doesn`t you`ll...

Re: Starting problem
We all have been though this starting issue - ...For me, 90% of my starting problems have been low voltage, worn, corroded, poor or loose connections at the battery or the starter. I hope this is where your problems are - otherwise let the over thinking begin . . . :banghead: First time for...

Re: Starting problem
Romus, you can bypass the contacts by shorting the terminals together. I use an old screwdriver when I can't find my starter bypass switch, well actually sometimes the screwdriver is just a shorter walk    Do be careful if you use a screwdriver as there is sufficient current to weld it...

Re: Starting problem
The brushes seem okay to me. How long are they? 1.05 cm also on the starter solenoid I found this site http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-technical-talk/163141-the-bonneville-starter-solenoid-boring.html According to this site (b) Engine won't turn over but a strong "click" is clearly heard ...

Re: Starting problem
It is intermittent - if I wait a while and try again it can work. This indicates solenoid works & you +12V at starter. My guess is brushes, armature seldom wears out but of course can happen. If you choose to not remove alt cover, DO MARK everything up before taking apart, lid-mid-bottom of sta...

Re: Starting problem
Hi Romus. This is the exact issue I had recently which required replacing the starter motor. The armature was burned out after the brushes had worn and disintegrated. My understanding is that cranking for long periods of time (prior to the Hicap mod, which I installed at the same time) can signific...

Re: Starting problem
romus, it sounds like the starter relay/solenoid. Assuming your battery is fully charged (new batteries usually aren`t) you can try two things. Put the emergency off switch to OFF position. Hit the start button and switch it to ON position while cranking. The second is to slap the starter relay wit...

Starting problem
On a few occasions lately I turn the key to start the bike and I only get a clicking sound from the under seat electrics. It is intermittent - if I wait a while and try again it can work. Three months beforehand I had put in the Motolectric Starter Upgrade Kit and a new battery. any ideas? Sept UPDA...

Maybe clutch problem
When I try and accelerate hard I get a surge in revs, just a little after a first power burst. With the surge in revs the power drops then catches on again. My guess is this is the clutch loosing grip. Do you agree? Happens in any gear. It still pulls off at fine initially from a stop, just with a l...

Re: MotoLectric Starter Cable upgrade - what a difference!
Yep, I agree. I put in this wiring kit at the same time as a new battery. Starting is 100% better.Mobius wrote:http://www.motolectric.com/hicap.all.html
WOW! What a difference this outstanding modification has made to my bike.

Re: rear brembo seizing
your brakes locking up may be that you have a bit of moisture in your brake fluid, this happened to my ford F250 a few years ago. PS: romus...you must be using the same hairdresser that I go to   Seems it's working now. I swapped back the original brake cylinder I had and slackened of...

Re: Ignition Timing
Still looking G :banghead: This is an interesting question. I was wondering about ignition timing. So far I have done the good improvements on the carb and cam timing. I understand that ignition timing is one of the other factors that should be adjusted right. What is this thermal load anyway, that...

Re: rear brembo seizing
If the caliper is new, it`s unlikely, true. My rear brake never locked, but when I opened the rear brake pump just to clean it I noticed it was full of some bluish crystalline stuff probably build up from old brake fluid over time. (When I rebuilt it I didn`t change the seals btw). I wonder if this...
